Magic Potion

Monday, July 7, 2014

Recently, having to live on a tighter budget has left me more open minded to DIY projects. When it comes to skincare I've always been a bit skeptical towards homemade products. However, I quickly realized that more expensive doesn't mean more effective.

I ran out of toner and decided to try a DIY one and OH MY GOD! My skin has dramatically improved.

Sure it smells awful, but hey if it works, get over it! (unless some people like to smell like questionable salad dressing?)

This all natural toner (made out of only 3 ingredients) rapidly cleared up my skin upon first using it. When new flare ups decide to come ruin my life, this toner gets me back on track faster than any topical treatment (surely might be a combination of things I use, but kicks it up into high gear, no doubt!).

So here is what you'll need :
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Water
  • Tea tree oil

You should probably use organic ACV...But I do what I can!

The quantities will depend on the size of the container you're using, but the ratio is : 2 parts water, 1 part apple cider vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil.

Voila! It's that simple.

Clearly I didn't come up with this, so I can't take any credit for this miracle. You've probably heard of it, seen it on Pinterest or what not, but a lot of those things are "nice ideas", they don't always work (especially some of those face masks...). But I'm here to tell you this toner has been tested and approved and most importantly it WORKS (fast and well). I strongly encourage you to try it for yourselves!

I'll catch you guys on the flip side ;)

  1. Sounds super stinky (cause ACV smells like funky socks) but I believe that it works. I'm always looking to buy toner and I never do, so I might just try this out. Do you use it everyday?

    1. Yeah, as mentioned it's definitely not the best smelling concoction...However it doesn't bother me for very long, no lingering, or at least I don't get any whiffs of it during the day or anything. I do use it everyday, morning and night and follow with the rest of my skincare!

    2. Oooh so you do it before cleansing... not after?

    3. No no! I use it like you would a toner...So I cleanse, tone, (sometimes use a serum), moisturize, (spot treatment for zits)... That's what I meant by "the rest"!

  4. I'm seriously considering trying this. Does it dry out the skin at all? Now that you've been using it for a bit, have you noticed any negative side effects/positive ones?

    1. It doesn't dry out the skin whatsoever, if you find it does adjust your ratio, or use a different essential oil. Only negative is the smell, and like Chris might notice it when you just put it on lol But besides that nope! I feel if I don't use it for a few days (I'll test other shit), my shit isn't doing as good. I.E Right now lol

  5. you use cups? So two cups water, for one cup of ACV + a few drops of the tea tree?

    1. I eye it, the container I use is one of those travel bottles you can fill up...But yes it would be 1 cup ACV for 2 cups water. I just like making it in a small bottle cause it takes up less space and I also prefer always having like a "fresh" batch, if that makes sense? :P

  6. Girl! I've been using the magic potion for a little longer now, and WOW. That stuff works!!!
I just reused my old Kiehl's toner bottle (it was empty) and replaced it with that, and it's AWESOME. My skin is soft and clear! And it has drastically helped with my scars :)
