Pour some honey on me | Honey skincare

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

I was having a bit of a skin crisis lately; irritation, dryness, redness, inflammation. It's ALL bad. Every now and then (I fall apaaart! You were thinking it too..Ok let's carry on) I try a product that doesn't agree with my skin and it just goes batshit crazy. I'm not even going to apologize for my language, it is what it is.

First step is to stop using whatever new products I've been testing (sometimes hard to tell which specific one it so I cut everything "unfamiliar"), and then to be SUPER gentle with my skin. Like ridiculously bland as far as ; face wash, toner, moisturizer.

When it comes to actually treating the skin, that's when I like me some honey! Honey is a powerful gift from nature ; soothing, antibacterial and actually helps promote healing, packed with antioxidants and moisturizing. Bottom line, it's the bomb dot com (I need more coffee, forgive me) and exactly what my damaged skin needs.

Right now I am OBSESSED (double bold, double underline, double obsessed) with Lush Brazened Honey Fresh Mask ($6.95). This mask you keep in the fridge is good up to two weeks. You get a couple uses in each jar so make sure that's the only mask you use in that time frame so none of it goes to waste! It's a deep cleansing mask but it's also gentle enough to use on sensitive/dry skin. It says for oily skin on the website, but from my end, I would disagree and say all skin types... It also exfoliates and softens. This is your "do it all" mask, really I'm impressed and thankful.

I wanted to pose the mask with the honey bear but his eyes creeped me out so he's looking away haha!

If the "deep cleanse" scares your irritated skin, you could also opt for their Love Lettuce Fresh Mask, which also stars honey and offers a lot of the same benefits, but is possibly a tad gentler. Also, most of their fresh masks have honey in them, so you know, they're on to something!

I also love THEFACESHOP Real Nature Honey Sheet Mask (around $2 per mask I believe) which I've used to rescue my skin before. I love how convenient it is, you can just keep a few in your house so it's always there, and also great for traveling! It literally speeds up the healing process sooo much after just one mask. Helps with radiance and moisture. And all I have is this shitty instagram pic! Yay!

If you don't want to shell out money or are just unsure about these, you can also literally just take the honey in your cupboard (ideally raw and organic honey but you know, you do what you can!), smear it all over your face, let it set a bit (at least 10 min) and rinse off. It's a bit messier but you'll notice your skin will be brighter and soft after.

You also don't need to wait for your skin to freak out to incorporate some honey in your routine. There's so many lovely products that use this natural wonder. For example :

You already know I LOVE my Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm ($19US/17$C)! And Nuxe also has a whole honey line, which I'm super curious about.

When my skin is in better shape, I've enjoyed using this Hey honey take it off mask ($29, I received mine in an Ipsy bag). It's one of those cool masks you let dry and peel off of your face, so it literally also takes off a tiny layer of skin (obviously nothing close to a professional peel) and leaves it brighter and smoother. I don't like this when my skin is very dry or irritated even though there is honey...I still find it to be a tad drying but super effective if you skin can handle it!

And my fav body butter is the Honeymania by The Body Shop ($20)...Coincidence I think not?

Bottom line, honey is a wonderful ingredient and can be used in many different ways. These are just some of the products that I've used and loved.
