Skin Treats | GLAMGLOW Dupe?

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

My skin has not been on point lately. Could be the weather, the stress, the new prescription, the all over life hygiene but as I've mentioned, I've been breaking out more than usual lately.

For someone who has struggled with really bad acne in the past, any breakout, feels just as traumatic. I know I have to be patient and gentle with my skin but sometimes it's hard!! Must. Resist. Temptation. Don't irritate, don't over dry, DON'T PICK.

Whilst I kept my skincare routine relatively unchanged to not distress my skin furthermore, I did want to incorporate something that was targeted to my current issue. Something more powerful, well efficient, you know?

I heard through the grapevine that the Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask was a decent dupe for the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Mask. For a $50 price difference, I decided to give it a try!

Now normally I would do a "Champagne or Beer?" for this type of comparison, but it didn't feel right for this because :
A) I do not have the Glamglow Mud Mask on hand
B) I haven't used it in years
C) My skin isn't quite the same now as when I used to swear by that mask...

Just to make things clear, I did not use Glamglow when my skin was at it's worse (it did not exist yet), but when I was down to mild/moderate acne (which is what is happening right now as well), but my skin was oily (never dry) and not nearly as sensitive. What it did was : deeply purify the skin, clear out black heads, calm down the breakout, and speed up the healing process. Really it was God sent. I do know that some people found it too intense and drying...So I know it wasn't for everyone, but it worked wonders for my skin at the time. When things were bad, I could always justify the price tag, because nothing even compared.

Flash forward and my skin is now combination and a tad sensitive, but I am facing the same amount of little "friends". Just when I was about to cave in and get Glamglow again, I kept hearing about this mask. THE UNIVERSE WAS TALKING TO ME MAN! And I listened.

In terms of ingredients, they're not really the same...The Glamglow Supermud Mask has charcoal and clay and then a list of fancy terms that basically sum up to; AHA/BHA and eucalyptus oil. The Sephora Collection Purifying & Mattifying Mud Mask has zinc and copper to really purify and white clay that softens and allows the skin to be enriched with essential mineral salts.

It is one of these "hard dry" masks. Just like the Glamglow you see it "pulling" oil around clogged pores. The drying process doesn't take too long, maybe 10-15 minutes. You just wait until it all turns light gray and then just rinse it off. You get to look super cool while it's on too :

In terms of results, I mean, this Sephora mask nails it. Again, my skin isn't the same now, but, this also deeply purified my skin, helped get rid of black heads, calmed down my angry bumps, and accelerates the healing process. I use this mask at night (twice a week) and every following morning, my skin looks drastically better. It does tingle a bit while it's on, but nothing uncomfortable. It doesn't seem to irritate or dry out my skin either, but I do follow with oil/moisturizer!

It's so refreshing and "spa like", and you just KNOW when a mask is really deep cleansing your skin. You can just feel it! And the results are real.

Again, I cannot say that it's a dupe for the Glamglow, but I can tell you that this is a FANTASTIC mask and highly recommend it to help clear out your skin! Also, I'd like to quickly mention that the packaging is quite sleek and almost more luxurious looking than Glamglow and the jar actually contains nearly twice as much product too...Just sayin'!

Have you tried Glamglow? Or even better, do you know of any other dupes? If not, definitely give this one a try :P

Talk to you soon!
-Xoxo, Val
