Product Review | L'Oréal Voluminous Superstar Mascara

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

As you may already know, my biggest makeup addiction is mascara. If a new one is out at the drugstore, I gotta try it. For high end, I tend to show more self control, as I usually get pretty good results from cheaper options. That being said, Too Faced Better Than Sex and Benefit's They're Real, are forever loved.

Alright, getting to the point of this post...In the drugstore realm, a brand that never seems to offer a mascara that steals my heart, is L'Oréal. I keep trying and being underwhelmed (though, I did like the Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt for a natural look). Back when I was in high school, Maybelline had this 2 step mascara that was called something like XXL, and it had that white primer end, and then the black mascara on the other. It was my FAVORITE.

When I saw the L'Oréal Voluminous Superstar Mascara (though I don't even think it's new, I think I'm just late to the party), I thought maybe, just maybe it could replace my high school sweetheart.

I really love that the "step 2" has a curved brush cause it really allows to lift up the lashes and a drier formula so you're not applying heavy wet coat upon heavy wet coat.  I'm usually a one coat kinda girl so I was worried about this weighing down my lashes since I tend to have trouble finding a mascara that holds a curl all day. But I have had no issues with this, which is already a big win!

I don't remember well enough to really compare this to the Maybelline one, because it's been well over *aheum*10years*aheum*, but shall we just let the results speak for themselves?

Now let's give it a score:
Application : 3/5 As far as actually getting it on for amazing results, it's a little bit of a process. It's messy (but I'm a messy lash painter), because this reaches new lengths and it's a little clumpy because it's more layers than your standard mascara. That being said, a lash comb and some cotton swabs are your best friends and will save the day.
Impact: 5/5 WABAM SHABAM volume and length!! Really dramatically enhances your lashes.
Wear: 4/5 Now listen, it's been balls hot out here lately, so nothing really stays put as long as it should...That being said, it doesn't flake, but by the end of a very hot summer night of partying, I was slightly channeling a panda...Like maybe one who's been using ligthening cream around the eyes. But yeah, it wasn't the BEST look.
Removal: 5/5 Thankfully, mistakes are easily corrected (once dried) with a Q-Tip because my lashes literally reach my eyebrows (ok, slight exaggeration) so it does kinda get messy. When it's time to take it off, any good ol' remover will do the job without ripping out your lashes. Easy peasy!
Final score: 4.25/5 Really pleasantly surprised and impressed with this bad boy!
Now here's the thing...You do have to work with it a bit, but, you will get your boldest lashes (way bolder and safer than that Physician's Formula Fibre Mascara that almost rendered me blind). In any case, for my it's not an everyday mascara, more for nights out when I'm wearing a lot of eye makeup (they also look less clumpy/spidery in that case), so it's worth the effort. Still simpler than falsies...haha I will have to try the waterproof version for this heat wave as well, see if that fixes the slight smudging problem.

What do you guys think? Will try this mascara out? Also let me know in the comments what your go to drugstore mascara is for the boldest lashes!

Talk to you soon!
-Xoxo, Val
